Imoyase FAQs
Are all
evaluations the same? No! There
are three general types of evaluation:
- Process Evaluation – Describes and documents
the course of the program. In other words, what was
actually done, how, when, for whom, and by
whom?
Examples: What activities were conducted?
Who was involved in the planning? How man people attended
the event?
- Outcome Evaluation – What were the immediate
effects of the program?
Examples: Did participants learn anything? Did
participants' behavior change as a result of the
activities? How have participants' attitudes change?
- Impact Evaluation – What were the ultimate
effects on the community?
How was the larger
community affected and what were the effects? What are the
community-wide indicators to demonstrate
change?

Do funding agencies prefer
that I hire an external evaluator? In
many cases, funding agencies will ask that your organization
be able to demonstrate its ability to meet its programmatic
goals and objectives. Further, your organization may likely
be requested to provide evidence from an external evaluator
to documents your level of programmatic success.

What is program
evaluation?
By evaluation, we mean the systematic
investigation of the merit, worth, or significance of
a project or organization's activities and/or objectives.
In other words, program evaluation is a combination
of:
- Good reporting
- Good detective work
- Good historical documentation and
storytelling
Program evaluation helps
organizations see how and in what ways they achieve their
goals and objectives, contribute to social change, and/or
help empower communities.

Who needs an
evaluator?
One way of answering this question is
by reviewing your organization's programmatic goals
and objectives. Ask yourself the following questions,
among others:
- How do you know if your organization is achieving its
goals and objectives?
- How do you know (and document) if your programs are
successful?
- What exactly is a successful program?
- What measurement tools and strategies do you use to
assess the level of program success?
- How do you document the process your organization used
to implement its programs?
- Who participates in you in your programs?
- How do you know if your programs reach their intended
audience?
- How often do programs occur, and, who attended?
- What does your organization attempt to accomplish?
- How will your organization impact public policy or
contribute to social change?
If you do not
have concrete, measurable answers to the above
questions, Imoyase can help YOU! We will help your
organization clarify its programmatic goals/objectives and
develop measures to test the reliability, validity, and
impact of your programs and activities. How? We believe a
rigorous, multi-faceted methodology is very important in the
research process so our evaluation plans are tailored to
meet the needs of organizations and the communities they
serve. Some of the research methods we employ
include:
- Quantitative and qualitative analyses (basic and
advanced)
- Surveys (which we develop)
- Structured interviews
- Focus groups
- Asset mapping
- Ocular surveys

Why can’t I evaluate my own
program?
One of Imoyase's strengths is helping
communities and organizations develop research skills
by providing training sessions catered to organizations'
needs. So, when you are requested to develop measurements
to evaluate your program, we help you learn, step-by-step,
the research skills needed to document the program's
success.
Therefore, when a funder asks you, "How do you
know your program works?" you will be able to demonstrate
a thorough knowledge of evaluation techniques and data
collection strategies.
